How to practise simplicity with Jodi Wilson

Hello and welcome back to another year of the Slow Home Podcast (pogpast!) I’m excited about the year ahead, and particularly thrilled about the line-up of guests I have in store for Season 9. There’s going to be a real focus on how we can use slow living and all its elements as tools to help reframe life in this uncertain, exhausting, two-years-into-Covid world we’re all living in, and I hope every conversation I share with you will not only give you a new way of viewing our day-to-day choices, but also prove to be practical and inspiring.

And this first episode feels like the very best starting point I could have hoped for, because I dive head-first into a conversation with Jodi Wilson of Practising Simplicity, and practise? That’s what this whole idea of simple and slow living needs!

Jodi and I dig deep into the topic of letting go - what that means, how we can acknowledge and accept the discomfort that comes with it while also moving through it at the same time, and why it is necessary in order to grow.

We also talk about the idea of risk, and how Jodi, a self-described risk-averse person, decided seemingly on a whim, to sell up and move her family of six into a caravan for 18 months of cross-country travel. It turns out there is never a perfect time to make the big leaps in life, but rather something happens when we decide it’s the right time to act: momentum takes over.

Jodi and I also talk about:

  • living with awe at the centre of our lives

  • the importance of small steps in making big change

  • what constitutes bravery through the lens of choosing a simpler life

  • how we can all live a life (slightly) less distracted without the need to live long-term in a caravan

  • the role of contentment in our lives.

I felt so uplifted, inspired and grounded after talking with Jodi, and couldn’t think of a better place to begin this year’s podcast. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
